This page is reallllly out of date. I've seen a lot more movies now.
Top picks I've watched lately:
- Adaptation. (Nicolas Cage finally did something I like.)
- Anger Management.
- Cool Hand Luke.
- Requiem for a Dream. (Most disturbing movie I've ever seen.)
Reviews of movies I've seen (that I recall. This section will gradually fill in)
- Almost Famous - Great movie. Fairly original story, touching.
- Amadeus - Pretty good, but Mozart's obnoxiousness gets annoying after a while.
- American Beauty - Awesome movie. Anyone who has gone through great changes in their life to make themselves happier will be able to empathize with Kevin Spacey.
- Apocalypse Now - Very dark movie. Probably more shocking back in 1979, but definitely gives you insight as to how fucked up war is and how it can screw with your head.
- Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me - About as funny as the first...
- Beavis and Butt-head Do America - This was a let down. It wasn't even as good as an average TV episode of Beavis and Butt-head.
- Being John Malkovich - This was pretty good. I didn't think it was as cool as the reviews, but it was a neat idea that was well produced.
- The Bone Collector - Definitely doesn't live up to Seven, but is a moderately interesting mystery/suspense movie.
- The Breakfast Club - One of the greatest 80s teen flicks. I'm slightly biased since I have been watching this movie regularly since I was about 7 years old.
- The Cell - Interesting concept of entering a murderer's mind to find out information about a recent killing, but the story needed to be developed way more.
- Charlie's Angels - Nice and cheesy, just as it needed to be. I love the scene with Lucy Liu in a tight vinyl outfit...
- Chasing Amy - Yet another in the series (Clerks, Mallrats). The most serious so far, addressing real societal issues.
- The Cider House Rules - A touching drama. Does a great job of getting me interested (which poorly made dramas don't do). Nothing life changing, but definitely interesting.
- Clerks - Amusing beginning to a series of movies. Any Gen-X person needs to see and know this movie.
- Cruel Intentions - Totally twisted story about two teenagers making bets with each other. Very erotic, very twisted, very interesting. Looks like a cheesy movie by the cover, but it's quite excellent.
- Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo - Terrible comedy. Maybe worth watching if you're high.
- Dogma - The most recent in the series (Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy). I thought it was hilarious. This one actually had quite a plot.
- Down to You - Never watch this. It wasn't even worth watching if you wanted to see a mushy romance flick. It was terrible.
- Election - Man, this brings back high school memories. Especially the corruption of teachers involved in extracurricular activities. Shows how students do actually have the potential to screw with tradition, even at high school level.
- Erin Brockovich - Interesting story. Kept me into it the whole time.
- Eyes Wide Shut - I could barely keep my eyes open. The thing kept me just interested enough that I didn't walk out of the theater.
- Fight Club - Awesome movie. Incredibly believable story about how an insane man can form an army. Great ideas about society and about the inability to know oneself.
- Friday - Great to watch if you're high. I'm not sure otherwise.
- Full Metal Jacket - Half about marine training. Half about a journalist in the Vietnam War. Not sure if there's anything particularly unique or special about this movie.
- Generation-X Cops - Generic action movie.
- Gladiator - Pretty neat story, but the film production bugged me.
- Go - Mildly amusing story about a night out. But you see it 4 times from four different perspectives.
- Groove - Hilarious story about raves in SF in the early 90s. If you've ever been to a rave, you must see this.
- Happy Gilmore - One of Sandler's best. Will be a cult classic, I'm sure.
- Hard Candy - If you've never seen a 14 inch penis in 3-D, this is something to watch. 3-D porn is quite something. Not a good movie, but it's 3-D porn!
- High Fidelity - Girls love this movie. I thought it was okay, at best. John Cusack has done better...
- Insider - If you like Russell Crowe, you'll probably love this movie. I thought it was reasonably interesting.
- Life is Beautiful - I don't see the big excitement about this movie. I thought Antonio Benigni was funny, and that the movie was interesting, but I find documentaries about the Holocaust more interesting than movies.
- Love Stinks - If you've ever been in a serious relationship, you have to see this movie. It's even better if you're currently in one, or recently out of one.
- Magnolia - Weird movie. I couldn't find much redeeming value, but it seemed like an artistic movie.
- Mallrats - Funny sequel to Clerks.
- Man on the Moon - Rather uninteresting movie about Andy Kauffman. If you're interested in Andy Kauffman, maybe you'll like it.
- The Matrix - Awesome story. Makes you think quite a bit about reality. Also has sweet special effects. Probably one of the best movies of the 90s.
- The Ninth Gate - Rather dull story about hell and evil.
- The Professional - Somewhat interesting. Fun to watch people who just kick ass.
- Romeo Must Die - The music kicked ass. Neat twist to Romeo and Juliet, but not well written.
- Rules of Engagement - Another law movie.
- Run Lola Run - A movie that shows you several different twists. "What if this had happened slightly differently..." And then show the ensuing differences.
- Saving Private Ryan - One of the most gut-wrenching movies I've ever seen. Never have I felt like I was right in the middle of a war like I did when watching this movie. If war is any more real than this, I can't imagine it...
- Seven - One of the best movies I've ever seen. Such an awesome story. Extremely well produced. Great acting.
- Shaft - Another movie where it's fun to watch someone kicking ass.
- Shakespeare in Love - I hardly remember this one. Lovey, dovey story about Shakespeare falling in love with some girl.
- Shawshank Redemption - A great movie about someone wrongly sent to prison. Shows that people can make the best of things if they try, even in a shitty situation.
- Singles - If you're a 20-something, you should watch this. If you're from Seattle, it adds an extra bonus.
- Sleepy Hollow - This was a fun movie about an old story. Looks like a movie for kids, but it's really a good movie for adults.
- Sliding Doors - Another what if movie. "What if she had caught the train..." Shows that sometimes, it doesn't really matter in the end even though a bunch of differences ensue from the slight difference in the beginning...
- South Park: Bigger, Longer, & Uncut - Just a long version of South Park.
- Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace - Yay, let's find out how everything happened in Star Wars.
- Stay Tuned - Kids movie about parents who get sucked into the TV and have to somehow survive and get back out. Incredibly cheesy.
- Superstar - Why did they make a movie out of this lame SNL skit?
- The Talented Mr. Ripley - The story sucked, but the characters were *very* interesting.
- Titan A.E. - Lame story, okay art.
- Titus - Pretty cool twist on Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus. Kind of a weird mix of present day technology with old world buildings and ideals.
- Wayne's World - Classic. You must watch.
- X-Men - Fun movie with cool effects. I look forward to the future episodes.
- Wild Things - Turns out to be a fairly interesting story. Makes you really wonder who's done what. Also has some great erotic scenes for the guys.
