Aaron's Anime Page

This section of my site is devoted to a new and growing interest of mine:
Japanese Animation (anime).
My interest in this topic started last semster (Spring 2002) when I was
taking a Japanese music class (Music 134B). We needed to choose from a
list of topics for a final presentation, and I chose anime because I
thought it was cool, despite having almost no previous knowledge. One of
my group partners suggested that I do some research on a particular
seiyuu, Megumi Hayashibara, who used the popularity that she
had gained through anime to also start a music career. This was when I
learned that one of her first successful roles was as the female voice of
Ranma Saotome in the series Ranma 1/2.
My interest was sparked over the summer when some of my brother's friends
came over to watch anime episodes and I asked them if I could see an
episode of Ranma 1/2. They didn't have any episodes with them, but at
that time I signed on to BearShare and Kazaa and I've been downloading
episodes ever since. On recommendation from my brother's friends, I have
also started watching Cowboy Bebop. This series has cool background
music, with strinking similarities to American jazz.
If you have any recommendations as to which other series I should start watching, send me email:

This seems to have become an all too familiar sight because of my interest in anime =)
Spirited Away Updates:
10/5/02: I saw Spirited Away last weekend. I was impressed; this is definitely one of the best movies I've ever seen! I'm not going to say what happens so that I don't spoil it for people who haven't seen it, but if you haven't yet seen this movie, take my advice and go see it. It's definitely worth the trip to the theater.
Check out the official website for Spirited Away.
1/23/03: I got the Spirited Away DVD! Pictures of the front and back covers are below. It's a great movie, and this version comes complete with English subtitles and over 20 movie trailers, plus preliminary sketches used to make the animation. Definitely worth buying. There are only two minor problems with this DVD:
1. It was made for Japanese TVs, with 9300K screens. On American TVs, there is a reddish tint, so you have to adjust the color a little to get rid of it.
2. MPAA / Hollywood SUCKS! Region codes are evil. I had to mod my DVD player just so the disc would play, and it won't play in my older unmodified DVD player. Anyone who's looking to purchase a DVD player should be sure to buy a modified region free one, or buy a modchip separately and solder it in.
