[HKN Alumrel] End of September 2001 Newsletter + Addenum This message sent to alumni, and officers. Hey all, It's that time again. Although it's been done countless times since Sept. 11. I'd like to extend condolences to anyone who has been personally affected by the tragedy. But, because its what must be done, we'll move on to business. Alumni Appreciation went well. Over 20 or so alumni showed up for a night of fun and food. A few even came out to the unofficial broomball afterwards. I'll see about getting a more indepth wrapup online with pictures. Administrative Junk: -Still searching: The following alumni, should get in contact with me. Alan Chou (I know you get this), Jeff Shneidman I dug up your info from an older copy of the database, if you could resubmit using the form at hkn.eecs.berkeley.edu, I'd be much obliged. (REPEAT) -New Search: These alumni still have their Bridge Magazine being sent to our Offices. William Wong Hong Tam Forrest Sedgewick Romi Halimman John Bowling If any other Alumni know how to get in contact with them, please tell me. Otherwise we'll just cancel their subscription for them. -Alumni section now has a database of old newsletters just in case you missed em. Well not really database, but browsable. I'll leave it txt files until someone decides to contribute content. (Hint hint pictures), and then maybe I'll build an html version. http://hkn.eecs.berkeley.edu/alumni/Newsletters/ (REPEAT) -I now have a pretty version of the alumni list available upon request. I'll soon password protect and pass out the password, if you'd like to see it, email me. (REPEAT) Tshirts/Yearbooks: -The NEW yearbooks are finished. As soon as we mass produce em, I'll start sending it to people I have contacted about it already. I'll set up a list on the website for you to confirm I actually know about you. -If you haven't received either shirt or yearbook, please tell me, with your current mailing address, and I'll fix that situation. For any alumni I've already talked to, this doesn't apply to you. :) (Read Above) If you'd like the older one, inform me, I can send both if Bridge lets me. I'll be compiling a mailing list just for those who are interested in keeping in touch with other Alumni down there. If you'd like to be added, please email me. (REPEAT) -As always check the calendar for the latest. Alumni to Alumni: Gagan: You Suck Rishi Greg #1 Gregory Chew Hi! If you're around Washington area, message me! Koichi Tsunoda Comments: -Personally, I'd like to establish a tradition where Alumni feel that its normal to come to HKN events when they're in the area. To the point that any members/officers feel strange if there are NO alumni in attendance. I realize that this is a major shift in attitude from before, but I think it can be done gradually. I understand the major concern is most Alumni wish to "know" at least another alumni before they show up, and I understand that. So here's my suggestion, next time you see an event and want to go, but want other alumni, why don't you message them directly and come as a group, and when here, make a point to meet some current members so coming by yourself won't feel strange. Just my rambling. Thanks for listening. :) -I've been considering getting us a messageboard on HKN so communication would be easier overall. I'd like feedback on this idea, whether you think you'd use it. Or any other concerns about it. Thanks in advance. (REPEAT) -As an additional note, just so we have it in writing. We are NEVER going to sell your personal information you have entrusted us with. The only people who will have access to the list are Officers with a need for it to perform their duty, and OTHER alumni on the list. If however, you'd like more privacy than that, please feel free to tell me. This system is built around YOU. (REPEAT) -If you run into any old HKN who don't know about the Alumni network we're trying to build, please point them our way. (REPEAT) -If you consider this spam, and would like to be removed from the Alumnilist, please reply and I'll handle it. (REPEAT) Alan Tse HKN AlumRel FA01 Addenum: Sent to Officers, Alumni. My apologies for the additional spam, but I forgot to add this. We're currently in search for an additional alumni speaker for one of the general meetings. If you feel that you could provide an interesting talk at the meeting, any reasonably relevant topic. Please feel free to help us out. Just email me and I'll get you in contact with the appropriate parties. Thanks again, Alan Tse HKN AlumRel FA2001 Addenum 2 Sent to alumni, officers. Sorry, I promise three in rapid sucession will be my max henceforth. If you're in the area for Homecoming Weekend, come to the pregame BBQ at the Soda VolleyBall Courts. It starts the 29th, at 11:00 am and is scheduled to 1. FREE FOOD!!! Mingle too. Also for the Big Game, I expect us to be doing something too, so if you're interested, please check the webpage. One way to help me help you recieve less of these addenums, is get in the habit of checking out the Calendar, or at least the alumni section of the web page. But that's another thing entirely.
