[HKN AlumRel] End of Summer 2001 Newsletter NOTE: This was to the alumni and officers. Greetings All, I'm Alan Tse, and I'm the new alumrel officer for FA01. As outlined as one of my duties, I'm supposed to keep the alumni informed about HKN, and hopefully keep you older types involved. *cough cough* broomball *cough*. Most of you do not know who I am, mainly cause I'm a young-un newly-initiated into our family, but hopefully I can solve that problem. This email will be divided into a few sections as I go, so you can skip the stuff you don't want. Administrative Junk: -As in, this can be considered spam by some, I will try to keep this down to at most bi-weekly, expect it monthly with emergency updates. I also plan to keep an htmled archive version available on hkn.eecs.berkeley.edu, as I get everything setup I'll send the word out. -If you received this copy twice, there are two explanations, You're currently in the officers mailing list, or your data is inserted twice within the database. If your in the latter case, inform me so I can fix it, and if you're in the former, it might just require me removing you from officers. :) -The following alumni, should get in contact with me. Aaron Isaksen, Alan Chou, Jeff Shneidman- I dug up your info from an older copy of the database, if you could resubmit using the form at hkn.eecs.berkeley.edu, I'd be much obliged. -Additionally, if anyone has the email addresses for, David Vierzba, Tim James, please send it my way. They filled out the database forms without providing email addresses. Tshirts/Yearbook: -Another of my jobs is sending out Tshirts/yearbooks to all the alumni who decide to add their name to our spam list..... er mail list. However, since my info is sketchy at best for who's gotten what, I'll rely on the honor system. If you haven't received either shirt or yearbook, please tell me, with your current mailing address, and I'll fix that situation. Activities: -_REPLY ASAP_ Alumni Appreciation/ Change of Powers Dinner: When: Friday, Sept 7, 2001 6:00pm - 9:00 pm Where: Old Spaghetti Factory, Jack London Square, Oakland Notes: I need a headcount, so RSVP. Alumni this is FOR you guys, so showing up might be a good idea. I think it'd be a good place to see where your club has gone since you finished. -As for other events, I'll let the interested head to hkn.eecs.berkeley.edu to find it out. It changes constantly, and I wouldn't want to spam unless its important. However, if I get enough feedback from Alumni to have specific events mentioned, BroomBall, etc. I can do that. Alumni to Alumni Babble: -The following are comments left by other alumni when they filled in the forms. I don't know where this section is gonna go, but suggestions are welcome. -I have gotten a suggestion to use this section for letting alumni update the rest of what's happening to their life, (new jobs, marriage, etc). I plan to make this a web functionality, but until then, send it to me. http://www.cs.unc.edu/~lorenzen Peter J. Lorenzen Long live HKN! Amit Sahai go bears! Jonathan Choy Drop me a line anytime. Pradeep Inamati Go BEARS!!! Shankar Rao Access to Mailinglist: -I plan eventually to have the alumni mailing list available in a secure section of hkn, for all to have access with. If you would like a copy of it, request it, and I'll get it to you. Political Activism: -Just because it might be important in our field regarding the DMCA, I'd like to make you aware of the Sklyarov Case. More information at freesklyarov.org If you would like to be kept up to date of any political activism in and around the Bay area regarding this case, alexf@hkn would be the one to get in contact with. Comments: -I'd personally like the alumni to send in their ideas/suggestions. For instance, if you think of any events HKN should put together, old stuff that HKN used to do, but we don't anymore, etc. -If you run into any old HKN who don't know about the Alumni network we're trying to build, please point them our way. -If you consider this spam, and would like to be removed from the Alumnilist, please reply and I'll handle it. Again, thanks for your time. If you have any questions, comments, or contributions (Pictures work for the html version) please feel free to contact me. Take it easy all, Alan Tse Alumni Relations
