Study and Analysis on New Developments in HKN -------------------------------------------- By: jliao, jtran, ackner, michelleau, mtao, njoubert, georgechen, zhangz, vishay, aalipoury, mychang, mattea, ingrid, jared, darren, btay, wsandy, bkim, rzheng, sgowda, clay, min With Collaboration From: alanwu, quarl But Not From: wayne, angela, brlam, suhaas, jhoffman, sjavdani, kmowery 3/12/2008 Abstract: Much as happened in HKN in the recent past and it is apparent that many changes will take place in the future. Although important, these new development has not been satisfactorily analyzed except in the paper "Exec Meeting Minutes 2008-3-9" by jtran, darren, mychang, ackner, min, zhangz, sameer, and neelav. In this paper, we will build on the results from "Exec Meeting" and expand their method to create original analysis of our own. -First, we outline the weekly Props given to the officers of merit, -then we perform an indepth analysis of the likely HKN-IEEE merger and its effect on HKN, which will occupy most of our paper. -We will also utilize our analysis to predict the future of HKN T-shirts, -and the Scavenger Hunt. -We will show how our methods do not apply to the topic of Committee Dinner Reminder -nor the topic of Food in Office. 1. Props: Props will not be the central focus of our paper and we include it for completeness sake. Recently, HKN has given Props to the following people: -Mid-Semester Meeting goers for Mid-Semester Meeting. -darren and sameer for flying to Chicago for Merger Meeting. 2. Merger Updates: -Nationals have our best interest in mind. They are not adversarial. -Nationals don't have the money to fund new projects and hence want to use IEEE fund. -Poor communication between the chapters and the national board -HKN is not earning any money nationally; we don't have enough money to weather a storm -Board would like to increase the HKN fame, recruit more member -We cannot modify the agreement, but the agreement is to our favor -Board has no plan for the 5 million dollars that HKN will receive from IEEE -HKN will remain completely autonomous -IEEE requires that candidates are members of HKN when initating -IEEE would like to create an honors distinction to increase retention rate -Conflict could arise between the CS members of HKN -Our fee to nationals increase by about 30 dollars. -Nominally we will be honors branch of IEEE, but functionally we will be separate -VP Bruce Eisenstein believes that the IEEE will not pass the merger if we don't agree upon it now -We can leverage IEEE resources if we merge. -You can monitor and participate in the discussion by signing up on hkn@hkn.eecs.berkeley.edu -You can also email darren for extra questions. HKN welcomes Tu Tran T-shirts: -pub has given Aimee a deadline to produce the t-shirts. -james and aimee will have many designs among which we will vote during OM. -you can submit designs to pub@hkn within two weeks Scav-hunt Reminder: -Photo-scav hunt is saturday -All officers are required to go. -It is important to show up, this is a big event for the candidates. Committee Dinner Reminder: -HKN commends tutoring, bridge, indrel, pub, scolds the other committees for not having contacted the candidates yet. -Try to do the candidate dinner before spring break -Questions about candidate projects? Ask nir! Food in the Office: -Do not touch unopened food. -Expiring milk is fair game |
