Props -Robert for organizing the CS faculty presentation -Robert and Leonard for arranging Telebears peer advising 1. Photo Scavenger Hunt -Photo Scavenger Hunt is another really big event -It's on Saturday -Please go! It's a lot of fun! 2. Cal Day -The EECS department needs people to help out on Cal Day (April 16) -If you're interested in helping out for calday, sign the yellow sheet of paper going around -Mostly you'll be giving tours of the labs or of Cory in general 3. Internship Program -At the Faculty Retreat, it was brought up that the current internship program isn't very good -Prof. Culler is in charge and he agrees with that view -He wants students to write feedback, including what students want and what companies want out of the program -The current program didn’t work out because some of the internships didn't work out well for the companies -People interested in talking to Prof. Culler: -hxu, ttd, ihaque, jele, lid, sahandn 4. Proposed Schedule -It was brought up before that the proposed schedule of classes in the advising book are bad -Major complaints were: the classes were not in the right order, some suggested schedules had students taking too many tech classes a semester, etc. -Prof. Lee is OK w/ changing them, but he wants suggestions -If you’re interested in giving suggestions, raise your hand and give your option #: -sahand 2, li 1, ihaque >1, noaa 4, don 5 5. Induction Ritual -Chris needs feedback on what everyone thought of the new induction ritual -Sahand thinks Alice G’s suggestions were good -The new ritual didn’t emphasize helping other societies -It seems to focus more on patting ourselves on the back -Imran: They changed the purpose of HKN -Quotes such as "those who have conferred honor" and "to foster educational excellence" don’t really mean anything -It was better before (with the general idea- "to bring people together for mutual benefit") -Noaa notes that some of the old lines (such as not expecting the world to give you anything) make the ritual blown out of proportion -Chris says that the purpose of the ritual might be to be slightly over the top -Naren and Tanya want the line about not resting on our laurels to still be in the ritual -Donny notes that even though "scholarship, character, and leadership" are listed, we don't really have the candidates do anything that require a leadership role -Are there any ramifications for not using the new ritual? -Tina says that although HKN has never officially said so, there should be some leeway before we have to use it -The general consensus is that everyone likes the old one better -Leonard says that the beginning of the new ritual is weird (the part about controlling the lights) |
