----------------
EJC is willing to fund $350 for fridge (~$500 for the fridge Eric was
looking into)
Should we get the fridge? Where would the fridge go? A discussion
about the rearrangement of furniture in the Soda office ensued.
Pros:
Having a fridge would help Act very much.
Cons:
takes away space from examfiles cabinet, possibly more clutter in
the office
. Need to ask UPE and tell them about proposed office arrangement. (Mimi
already did)
. Perhaps share the fridge with UPE?
. Need to ask Jo Davis if it's okay.
-> Officers voted for the Fridge.
3. EJC Dunk Tank + BBQ (Rupert)
-------------------------------
Sign-up to volunteer for the dunk tank!
Need more people to help assemble the dunk tank in the morning, please
talk to Rupert if you can.
Food
. BBQ needs approval from the fire marshall and EHS. This requires
a 1 week notice
. Other suggestions: Sandwiches?
. Eventually settled on a load of junk food.
EJC Barbeque:
. EJC needs grills...
. Kevin Wang has one.
. Is HKN interested in vegetable items like veggie skewers? No!
4. Constitutional Amendment (Mimi)
----------------------------------
In order to adhere to the By-laws that were filed in 1998, Jin and Casey
were removed from office so that we could carry on the voting process
with all officers present.
Proposed Changes:
Article I:
Change "Electrical Engineering Honor Society"
to: "Electrical & Computer Engineering Honor Society"
Voted on and passed.
Article II:
Change "Electrical Engineering"
to: "Electrical Engineering and Computer Science"
Voted on and passed.
Article III:
Change "Electrical Engineering"
to: "Electrical Engineering and Computer Science"
Change "Those in the top fourth of the Junior class, and the top third
of the Senior class, may be considered for membership."
to: "Those in the top fourth of the Junior class, and the top third
of the Senior class, as well as all those declared eligible by
the National Eta Kappa Nu Constitution, may be considered for
membership."
Change "After this initial stage, all potential new members must go
through a candidate process involving, but not restricted to,
community service and tutoring other students, to determine
their willingness to help others, and return to the community
that helped them attain their present position in society"
to: "After this initial stage, all potential new members must
go through a candidate process to determine their willingness to
help others, and return to the community that helped them attain
their present position in society"
Change "Only active members may hold an office in Eta Kappa Nu"
to: "Only active members may hold an office in Eta Kappa Nu, where an
active member is a member of Eta Kappa Nu and is also a
currently registered student of UC Berkeley"
Voted on and passed.
Article IV:
Change "Any number of members can be nominated for a position,
regardless of the actual number of officers required for that
office."
to: "Any number of members can be nominated for a position,
regardless of the actual number of officers required for that
office. Elections will be done via approval voting. During
elections, when each candidate's name is called out, as many
people who approve of the prospect of this candidate being the
office-holder would cast a vote. Each member present to vote
can formally approve of as many people running for that
particular office. The candidates who hold the top number of
approval votes win the office, if the number of approval votes
received constitutes a simple majority of all those present.
In the case of a tie, the tied candidates would have a
run-off, the format of which shall be determined by the
presiding officer at his or her discretion."
Voted on and passed.
Article VI:
Change "For an amendment to be made to the constitution, all officers
presently serving, as well as any other members who wish to,
must attend a meeting to vote on the proposed amendment."
To: "For an amendment to be made to the constitution, a meeting open
to all members of the organization shall be held. This meeting
shall be announced to the general membership at least one week
