3.) The Bad: what went wrong sp '03

1. alexf needs less accidents

3. unprepared to tutor
4. bad activities: movie night (no socializing), Qzar, bay festival (no
point), bowling (too much waiting, should've sent someone ahead of time to
reserve lanes), expensive activities
5. lack of activities: golf drive
6. economy
7. bad community service: make funner, need trailhacking, Ohlone park mgmt
mean, don't expect people to bring bagged lunch, don't expect to have
lunch served on a silver platter in the middle of a swamp
8. not enough planning, delegating within committees
9. need stricter timelines
10. publicize other group's more on events calendar
11. losing sports (and losing face) to alumni, UPE, TBP...
12. few officers at events (take roll for accountability?)
13. no early weekend activities, or sign-up sheet for wakeup calls
14. no socializing btwn candidates
15. no set policies for candidate attendance
16. course surveys stored in cramped Cory, instead of spacious Soda
17. candidates using Word for exam conversion

4.)THE NEW: what we're changing up for fall '03

2. officer attendance policy for big activities, community service
3. peer advising better time & location (not Woz, not Fri afternoon)
4. more involved in inter-club events to prevent things like date auction
lewdness
5. many small faculty mixers, instead of one big one
6. inter-committee socializing (unsubsidized fun!)
7. exam checkouts: tabling right before midterms to give out, new deposit
system (no $$), exam drives to collect
8. projectOHM
9. more open source
10. other exams: fizx, math?
11. tea/coffee (burrito/ore cart?) runs in addition to donut runs
12. surveys for TAs to fill out
13. booksell for EECS (shameless plug: go to http://bookswap.berkeley.edu)
14. something date-auction like, but different like talent show
15. library for textbooks (physical or pdf)
16. officer bonding activities after retreat
17. end-of-semester candidate conversations with committee to checkup, get
feedback, encourage running for office, maybe character assessment?
18. bdays (Celebrate good times, come on!)
19. suggestion box outside offices
20. new activities: poetry reading, Jelly Belly tour, Exploratorium,
community service (basket making, passing out packages to homeless, tutor
or just visit local elementary/middle schools)
21. candidate ice breakers after speakers? (ex. pull impromptu speech
topics out of hat)
22. foce officers to small talk about non-HKN topics
23. more challenges involving other officers
24. more active and daring clues for scavenger hunt, less riddles (ex.
everyone stand in fountain w/o getting wet)

26. GMs balance members desire to hear speaker with candidate's desire for
fun and icebreakers
27. GM talks: more personal, less focused on one tech topic, more
interactive, maybe get alum to speak, maybe get senior alum to speak?
28. icebreakers after speakers, before food, so members can leave or just
watch, while candidates ice break
29. GM talks shorter, 20-30 min. to fit in icebreaker
30. food later to fit in icebreaker
31. officers help start the mingling at faculty mixer
32. give candidates more responsibility
33. more interaction btwn alumni & new HKNerds
34. meetings w/ candidates outside of HKN
35. committee spend time with candidates doing HKN activities

37. common class lists (needs much ethical discussion concerning
restrictions & elitism)
38. more independence from fhsu (even though he is very appreciated!)

45. use your committee mailing list for advice, updates, etc.

	- for those who want to help, but not make a huge time commitment
	- office tutors a subset, require app, limit #
	- active members volunteer, less commitment than officer
	- not pictures on website, just keep them in contact with studrel
	- other committees who need extra help (read: slave labor =P), ask
	studrel for active member recruitment!
	- can only help a bad situation where few members still active


5.) The Ugly...Summer!: immediate plans for the summer

Vu congratulated sp '03 office core on a good semester: longer "The Good"
list (but also longer "The Bad" list).
